The Cec Richards Memorial Scholarship

Very Worshipful Brother Cecil Richards was a member of Lodge Wahroonga No.674 from the 1960’s until his passing on 21 December 2018. He served as Worshipful Master for 4 years. Despite a speech impediment in his early years he forged great skill in learning and presenting lodge ritual. He was highly respected by all lodge members and he was a leading contributor to society in many ways.

Following his death the members of Lodge Wahroonga decided to establish a Charitable Trust to award scholarships in his name to provide assistance to disadvantaged students in primary and secondary schools.

Cec had a difficult childhood and left school at the age of 14 to financially assist his mother. He worked at Moran and Cato as well as other grocery businesses for more than 50 years. He came to be respected and even revered by those who knew him. He never married; however he was a much loved Uncle to many nephews and nieces.

Steps were taken to establish The Wahroonga Foundation as a charitable trust to provide scholarships for assistance with primary and secondary education and the first scholarships are to be awarded in January 2023 from funds which have already been raised from donations and fundraising events.
